For example, I hate physics but it helped me understand partially what engineers understand. However, there should be internership programs where students are allowed to do in high school. For example, if one wants to be a rock star or a dressmaker or a chef or a banker or an entrepreneur, then they should be allowed to have a year worth of time learning those things in the field. Not everyone is meant to be a CEO or an entrepreneur. Society is too complex and has to be run by having different professions. Dan Lok's idea will be hard to implement because it is too individualistic. He even talked about how to handle social media etc. These things should be learned outside the classroom. We need the 3 R's. Maybe if there is practical arts and home economics which are very good practical knowledge, there should be practical money management classes. Reply Liberty and Justice says: December 30, 2017 at 11:24 am Revolutionary information here: —> 8:43 I came to this conclusion myself because I have questioned authority for over 25 years now, and am very skeptical of the system (political, corporate, education). I always strongly believed there's an elite steering things for their own gain, and to our (the people') detriment – in the guise of helping us, of course. If EVERY person in this country (US) knew what Dan says beginning at 8:43 , this country would change so drastically, and for the better. People would not be slaves any longer. I agree and am able to relate to your story to a certain degree. Although, our standard education system may be providing a basic foundation for learning, it doesn't allow for a concept of earning great wealth. It also does not effectively teach beauty of diversity. Kids are constantly criticized and taught to conform. Some of us are lucky enough to have had one or two teachers who broadened our minds and supported our creativity and independence. I was fortunate to have a couple of teachers who inspired me to think outside of the square of our education system and societal norms. I am truly grateful and continue to learn more to honor them and so I may teach what I now understand to others. Reply Sigler Chatsworth says: May 24, 2018 at 6:52 pm People get mad when I told them school is sucks Reply Fernando Salas says: May 26, 2018 at 3:32 pm teachers have to be more positive. I had a teacher that told me (4th grade) "I past you last year but this year your not reading" her comment devastated my mind, and I FAILED that year got left back. In Junior High School (7th grade different school building) Mrs O'Donnel was a positive teacher and always smiling never condemning you, I was surprised I had a 75% grade score, years later I pondered on that, and I realized iam smart but one teacher called a loser and the other teacher said positive things. It all comes down to teachers they should leave their personal problems at home or quit one word can destroy a kid that has a huge potential. Reply Alice Lowell says: May 29, 2018 at 7:40 pm Public schools are like a "one size fits all" recipe for life. That is why it doesn't work. That is exactly why it doesn't work. In old times, maybe 3 or 4 generation ago, people learned a trade through "apprenticeship", they learned directly from the industry, and graduated from that specific industry. Today, even if you learning a "trade" in a school, what you learn there has nothing to do with what really happening in that actual trade. It is just so backwards. In Eastern Europe when I was in school, it was part of our learning that we were brought into different companies and we had to work there a few hours one day in each of the week of during the school months. This vent on from grade 5 till grade 8. This way we were exposed to many different work places that were out there, so we had ideas about certain jobs for the time we finished grade 8, and most of us had ideas about what we want to study when going to high-schools, colleges or universities. Here in Canada, my kids finished high-school, they had no idea what to study next. We were looking several different college catalogues over, and they were still asking me what they should choose?!They were not impressed with any of the available offers, they might found 2 or 3 interesting subjects within a course program, but the rest there they viewed as an "unnecessary mental torture / waste of money & waste of time", that they probably never ever would have use of in their lives. Yet, they cannot graduate of the program, unless they are willing to take also those unnecessary subjects. I did not want them to go to college and pick something just for me. I wanted them to like what they going to do. But they were unsure, they were frightened "I don't know what people really do in that job", "what if I won't like it?", "how do I know if I will like it, if it is for me if I cannot try it (the actual job) out"? …These kids are told about jobs in our school system, but they not exposed to those jobs, they not experience it personally, they just "dream" about certain occupations. Sometimes, or most of the times, those "dreams" are false, not up to reality. So they do college, graduate, and when they finally face reality, they got disappointed. Yes, education here in the West sucks! Reply Kingdom Hot Wheels says: May 30, 2018 at 4:07 pm One of the many reasons we homeschool our 4 kids! By the time the graduate high school they will be prepared for starting businesses, entrepreneurship, and if they show aptitude and desire to, high level programming. They'll make more at 18 then your average college graduate. And they will be creative, open minded, and not afraid to fail! The problem is that they don't teach you some people choose to stay poor no matter how hard you are helping them or how much you given to them. school gives the idea that kids should be like robin hood, who is admired for some reason. Robin hood is a criminal and rob people for their money. He gives to the poor because he wants himself to feel less guilty of crimes. It's all by design that they squelch creativity and critical thinking. The value in this presentation is making people aware that to get where you need to be in life is not learned in school. It's true. Much of what's taught is outdated. Many a book written was good in its day, but now outdated, much of the reason attributed to technology. Technology has sped up knowledge so fast, it's obvious schools are not keeping up. For this reason alone, textbooks should no longer be in print but in online, changeable format.
