How to create an article in Joomla 3.4.3 with pop up images and related articles
Log in to the administrator back end using your administrator URL From the control panel you can create an article either from the menus … … or from the shortcut on the left side. First of all unpublish the newly created article … … so it won’t be public until you’re finished. Add a title The alias after the base URL will be autogenerated from the title. Write or copy & paste your text. To paste is as plain text use the appropriate button. Redo all the paragraphs to ensure proper paragraph formatting according to the chosen style. Add a “Read more” break … … so that only the text before it will be shown in the article intro on the website’s cover. Save regularly to avoid unexpected loses. To add pictures we use the JCE Editor Image Manager Extended Add-on … … that allows us to create pop up images. Upload your image to a folder It must be less than 2Mb otherwise Joomla will throw an error. The lighter the image the better for your site performance. Once uploaded, click on the image. On the upper side of the window you can tweak it. Write an alternate text in case the image can’t load. As we will create a pop up, don’t resize it. Align it. Wrap it or not. Add some margin (I like 10px). Take into account the alignment and wrapping you’ve chosen. Add some border if you like. Click on the Create Thumbnail button on the lower right side. You can choose your thumbnail size. Unlink the width and the height. Write the original image sizes. Link the width and the height again. Write the desired thumbnail size. Now your thumbnail has the same proportions as the original image. Save it. Go to the Pop ups tab. On the Popup Type select JCE MediaBox Popups. Select the image for which you want to create the pop up. It will ask whether you would like to use the image’s associated thumbnail. Click Yes. Add a title and a caption (optional) You can tweak it a little bit more. Set the pop up image size. As it is set to proportional, we can only give its width. Check that everything is ok. When done, save it. Add a caption using the JCE Editor Caption Add-on. By default it takes the caption from the alternate text of the image. You can modify it. Add some padding (10px). Save it. You can further edit the caption. Note the lines over and below the “Read More” break. Delete them. Use the FJ Related Articles Plus module to add Related Articles. You can preview the article by clicking on the preview button. The FJ Related Articles Plus loads articles based on the tags we provide. There will be no related article … … until we provide some tag. Now the module loads related articles based on the provided tags. Move to the Publishing tab. If you are not the article author … … you can change the author … … as long as the user is registered on the website. You can also add the author alias. Add a metadescription (what’s your article about). Add some keywords so that the article will be indexed in the search engines. Add the author name Go to Images & Links tab. You can add an intro image to be shown in the website cover page intro article. Select your image (for example some of the thumbnails you’ve created) Check everything twice. Publish the article. The article is published both … … on the blog … … and on the cover page as an intro.
