Hi, my name is Jaiden Shephard I’m the designer for VTJ. It means, Vintage Ties by Jaiden I started as a model, I used to model. I started in fashion, I’ve always liked fashion. you know, when I was little I had clothes fly clothes, so it got up to that point and I said… I changed from modeling and said “what
can I do to be a bigger inspiration to people?”. Instead of modeling why don’t I put my inspiration, my designs on models. I started with the bow ties neckties, then it grew to blazers and more. There is going to be more to come. Actually I never took a class. I’ve been wanting to take a class but, time and things just happening and you know, good things were
happening with fashion. When I started getting recognized, you know VTJ people already, they knew who I was so I said okay, so I I taught myself how to make ties because I didn’t know I didn’t know how
to tie a bow tie and I didn’t know anything about ties so I just decided to really learn myself, and I got research and I went through different fabrics, I
basically taught myself. I didn’t take a class or anything, it just happened, I just walked into it I wanted to become a fashion designer because I just felt really compelled to do
something more than just modeling, I wanted to be
an inspiration, an influence to people. VTJ is more than just ties, like I said, because when I make my ties it tells a story. It tells the story of the old to the new, because when I make my ties I always make it from old things, old fabrics, and I take it and
I make it and you see the finished product is new, it kinda represents my life where I came
from it started with the first…the first show that I had, I started in a small church in Detroit. When I think about it sixty shows…it’s just like dominoes, just… people started calling me…I think well at the time I know that it was a
lot it had a lot to do with – there wasn’t anybody in the area that was Deaf and doing fashion and I was just outpacing a lot of people, and so I
don’t mean that any in a bad way or a negative way, but you know I just basically had to run my
own race and so that’s what I did with VTJ people started calling me and I started
doing shows, you know, just promoting my brand and, you know going to different shows and showing people who I was, and I felt so alive when I was doing it. I felt so connected
to my purpose when I was doing it, my purpose my
mission my brand, it was something that that drove me every day to do, to do
greater and greater, and I kept doing more and more shows. The thing about it is perserverance and motivation that’s what you have to do to keep going,
and then when you look back at it you don’t have to regret
it because when I look back at it, I say “wow, I’m really completing a work that I was
meant for, that I was made for”, so thats what drives me to do so many shows that I did, and so many more shows in the future. I think that (what hit) me was that some people, they don’t take me serious so I have to work more other people to, you know prove myself. I want to you tell you thats why I went to
so many different shows you know just to, you know, prove to people that you know I can win that I’m like the rest of them Definitely New York (Fashion Week) because, you know it’s the…fashion, it’s the top of…the top of the world. Just take it one day at a time. I always, always say that to people one day at a time, you know some people they, they do to much, they think too much but just simply take everything day at a time and find out what your
passion is find out what it is special you like to do,
what do you like to do what gets you up in the morning what
makes you happy every day? What makes your life worth
living? What makes you so motivated to go day by day by day and just take it a
step at a time? Do your research, find out what kind of
people you want to reach and find out what is your brand, that purpose, that very thing that would help to lift you up, and encourage you, and will also
do the same for other people as well.
