5 Creative GORILLAPOD Hacks

5 Creative GORILLAPOD Hacks

Jordy here for cinecom.net! And
welcome to Creative Tuesday. In this series we share
creative filmmaking tips. And today it’s all about… …this little boy right here. Pretty
popular among vloggers, but there’s a lot more that you can do then
just squishing the legs together like this. First up is my favorite! You wanna bend two legs to the front
and one leg to the back. You can now push your camera back
and forward on the two legs, kinda recreating that
mini-jib effect, for when you’re filming
smaller things. For more controlled movements you can try to roll on the first
knob while pushing forward. This works as a friction now, which allows you to move slower
without any bumps. Trick number 2: extend one leg to the
middle and bend the other two to the back. If you grab the camera
upside down now, you’ll notice that the weight of
the camera, which is pulling itself down, kinda works like a steadycam. I’m holding the last knob
with two fingers and paying attention to reduce
heavy footsteps while walking. The two legs which are
sticking out to the sides are helping to reduce horizontal
camera shake. Since you’re filming
upside down, don’t forget to flip your shot
in post-production. And with the help of the Warp
Stabilizer in Premiere Pro nobody will see the difference between a gorillapod and a real
steadicam or gimbal. Shots fired? Yeah, I’m sorry. Well, to make it up with you guys, let
me introduce the sponsor of this episode. Because Videoblocks is giving away
seven days of free unlimited downloads from
their video stock library. You can search for any videoclip,
logo animation, background and… …120,000 more video assets. Follow the first link in
the description below to start your 7-day trial,
completely for free. The third gorillapod trick! Bend one leg to the back and the other
two in an arch to the bottom. The idea is to create
a camera rig. With a support against your shoulder
and your elbows in your hips, you can now make
more steady shots. But you do keep that
handheld movement. Now, building further
on this idea, you could bend the last part of leg, which
was leaning against your shoulder, to the inside, like here. This goes over your shoulder and the
two other legs have to rest on your chest. If bent properly you should be able to let go
of your camera and have your arms free. And this is pretty cool for
point-of-view shots. Either for product reviews or really fun videos
like the channel Buttered Side Down does. An amazing channel which you need to
check out, I’ll leave a link to them in the description below. Now, two more awesome gorillapod tricks
and the fourth might be convenient, but there’s a lot that
we can do with it. It comes basically down to wrapping the pod
around a branch or anything like that. This can create some
unique shots, where it’s not always so convenient
to put your camera. A second idea is to wrap it
around a stick and use that as an extension for recreating
a drone effect or something like that. I also used this in my vlog when
we moved to our new studio. When I was cleaning the place I wrapped
the camera around a broom. By the way, if you haven’t
seen our big move yet, make sure to click in the card up there
to check out that video, I’ll also leave a link to it
in the description below. And that brings us
to the last trick. You can actually mount
different things to it. You can use it as a microphone stand
for when you’re gaming or recording a software tutorial. Or if you need to film
in a tight place, like a closet. You could also mount
a small LED panel to it and clamp it somewhere in place
with the gorillapod legs. Now, these where
just five tricks, but there’re tons more. So make sure to hit
that subscribe button down below to see more filmmaking tips
every Tuesday and Friday. Thank you all so much
for watching, but most importantly… …stay creative! Hey guys! We have two new friends
here in the studio, this right here is Aputure Dome and
this right here is Aputure Fresnel. And when I don’t like Fresnel anymore
I can just take off his head if I want to, and change it into Aputure… …Cap.
